Essay 2-01a: How I think about language

I have studied three languages. I studied Japanese, English, and Spanish. In addition, I learned Chinese, Korean, and Italy less than them. I am from Kumamoto, in Japan, so my mother tongue is Japanese. When I was four years old, I could read katakana and hiragana better than others a little bit. I heard that I could speak many words when I was a child.

I have studying English about 8 years. I studied it for the first time when I was seventh grade in junior high school. I liked foreign things very much, so I wanted to study more. I was happy to know about English and its detail. The teacher was very kind, so he taught me friendly and I could understand well. My favorite subject is English even now.

I like foreign things, so I often see the Western drama, TV, and movies, listen to the Western music, read overseas fashion and gossip magazines. Of course, they are written in English. I try to read it fluently, but it is not easy for me. I heard from my high school’s teacher, and she said the best way to be good at English which you can daily is listening to the Western music. I still do it in everyday life according to the instruction.

In this university, if you are a student of foreign language depart, you should choose the second language and study it. When I was a freshman, I selected Spanish. The reason why I choose this is I wanted to travel to Spain. Spanish is not difficult for me. Although spelling is good, grammar is difficult. So I was worried about understanding this. But I repeated studying, I became better more and more.

I like studying languages. I study them, and I can study not only language but also its history, culture, and atmosphere. I take Introduction to Linguistics class, but I learned many things about Japanese even I am Japanese. Japanese has how to read, grammar, pronunciation, idiom, and so on. Even if my tongue is Japanese, I think it is very interesting.

Like I said in the beginning, I have learned Chinese, Korean, and Italy a little bit. When I went to experience entrance of some university, there are trial lessons, so I could take those classes. In Chinese class, I told how to write my name in Chinese from the teacher. I was very happy to know that. The languages which I don’t know are around the world, so I want to know those.

I want to live and work in overseas in the future. English is common language in the world, so I want to be good at English. I must read fluently, speak like natives, understand better than now. In addition, I want to travel around the world! I want to make a lot of friends, but I don’t enough courage and I am shy. I want to be friend with an exchange student. I will be an English master.

my favorite : TV/drama

I will talk about TV and dramas. I don't see TV in my house because I don't have enough time to relax, but I like foreign programs. I often rental DVD which is TV show, drama, or movie. My favorite foreign drama is "Prison Break." This story breaks out in prison. The main character entrance there, and tries to break jail to help his brother who was caught by mistake. Michael Schofield is very handsome. His strategy which uses his brain makes us surprised. But this story can be moving. Also, I like "Sex And The City" very much. This shows what the girls think about something, how they spend their gorgeous life. It is surrounded by fashion items, love story, and everything girls like. I am happy to see this. I recommend them.

my favorite : season

I will talk about my favorite season. My favorite season is summer. I love this season very much. I have some reasons why I feel so. First, my birthday is August 27. It is middle of summer. I can be celebrated by my family, my friends, and people around me. When I eat my birthday cake and special dinner, I am very happy! Second, I like to swim and go to the sea, and aquarium. I am good at swimming a little bit, so I go to the sea or pool every year. I like to play with water. This can be in only summer. Third, I like the festival. I like foods sold in japanese stall. My favorite is taiyaki. Another thing I love is fireworks! They are beautiful, moving, big, and powerful. I can see them in my house very much.

Good and bad points about summer

Let me explain good and bad points about summer that I think. As bad points, it is too hot to move everywhere. When it is sultry, everyone feels languid, and everyone's motivation will not occur. Also, for girls and women, suntan is not very good. Almost of them thinks it is worse than whitening of skin. On the other hand, it has some good points. First, the sale often is performed at the apparel shop. Second, we can do funny things. For example, they are swimming in the sea, pool, or river, BBQ, and so on. I am looking forward to so them every year. Although it may be a talk which is not related, my birthday is on summer. So I like summer.

How I study during the vacation

Let me tell you how to study English during the vacation by myself. I try to touch English　character more and more. When I listen to music, I often listen the Western music and see the lyrics. The Western music and artist are very cool. And I watch Western movies with japanese title and English sound. I always try to hear performer's voices and understand their words, but it is not easy for me. That's how I can understand what they say and contents. In addition, I like to read the foreign book. This can be studying English. I have ever read "Gone With The Window," "Beauty and the Beast," "Harry Potter series," and so on.
